Mazu Legend
源于北宋建隆元年（960年）莆田湄洲岛林氏女默娘
Originates from Lin Moniang in Meizhou Island (960 AD) during Northern Song
十六岁得玄通之妙，常乘席渡海救人，二十八岁羽化
Gained mystical powers at 16, often rode mats across seas to save people, ascended at 28
历代敕封廿六次，从「夫人」至「天妃」终至「天后」
Received 26 imperial titles from “Lady” to “Heavenly Consort” finally “Heavenly Queen”
郑和下西洋载妈祖香火，谓：「舟师晕船，祷之立愈」
Zheng He’s voyages carried Mazu incense: “When crew seasick, prayers brought instant cure”
清代《敕封天后志》载：「遇风浪，焚降真香呼妈祖，红光现则安」
Qing Dynasty records: “During storms, burn 降真香 call Mazu, red light appears brings safety”
